Family-Owned BESI, Inc.
In the early, 1970’s Bill Moore worked for a Wayne distributor doing warranty work and supplying parts to school bus garages. Then started his own company in 1975 in his garage, known as Bus Equipment Sales. He soon realized quality school bus upholstery was a much needed but difficult commodity to come by in the industry. Equipped with only a few sewing machines, Bill Moore used his knowledge of the industry coupled with a strong sense of customer service, honesty and integrity to start a new company, known today as BESI, Inc.
BESI, Inc. established its’ first large full service location in 1992 which included a production line, warehouse and large shipping department in Hamilton, Ohio. Due to a high rate of growth in the mid 1990’s this site experienced two additions in 1994 and 1999, creating over 29,000 square feet. Today this location is known as BESI Central. It has become the company’s main material warehouse for slitting goods and distribution center.
During the mid 1990’s Bill worked hard to establish solid business partnerships with both independent dealers and the major school bus manufacturers in the United States: Blue Bird, Carpenter, Collins, AmTran (currently known as International Truck and Engine) and Thomas Built Buses. These partnerships enabled BESI, Inc.’s products to be sold through an independent dealer network as well as the bus manufacturers’ distribution centers allowing for a national showcase of BESI, Inc.’s products. It quickly became clear; BESI, Inc. covers set the gold standard for high quality covers with the perfect fit. BESI, Inc. became the cover of choice through out the United States and Canada.
BESI headquarters occupying more than 100,000 square feet in three buildings, with a fouth under consrtuction.
A second manufacturing plant was established in Peebles, Ohio in 1996, which later relocated to its’ current location in West Union, Ohio occupying a space of 16,500 square feet. Today this facility is known as BESI East, and focuses production on transportation harnesses, seat belts and school bus accessories. In 2006 this facility also began producing a product line for Tie Tech LLC, a new division of BESI, Inc.
BESI, Inc. crossed state lines in 2000 opening its’ 3rd and largest production facility in Vevay, Indiana. Occupying over 60,000 square feet this facility not only produces seat covers and upholstery for buses, it also houses a full service fabrication department and shipping department.
In 2007 BESI, Inc. received ISO 9000 certification, establishing that BESI, Inc. meets US and International automotive quality standards in design, development, production, installation and servicing.
A corporate headquarters was built in 2008. This allowed BESI, Inc. to move its’ offices out of the Hamilton operations facility to a new l6,000 square foot facility, also located in Hamilton, Ohio. This new headquarters has allowed BESI, Inc. more room for growth in our customer service, sales and marketing divisions in an effort to enhance the services we provide to our customers.
After 3 decades BESI, Inc. now occupies more than 120,000 square feet operating out of 3 plants and a corporate office.
